In a court case there are usually two parties. There is the plaintiff and there is a defendant. As it says in the title a defendant defends themselves in the law suit or they are the ones that are being sued. A plaintiff is the person who brought up the lawsuit and is pursing a case against the defendant. An example would be if the People vs. OJ Simpson.
