Voir Dire

By June 22, 2017January 25th, 2024No Comments

Voir Dire is “the questioning of prospective jurors by a judge and attorneys in court” (law.com). Attorneys use voir dire to assess if the jurors can perform their duties without any bias. Attorneys look to see if the jurors have prior knowledge about the case, they also check to see if there are any conflict of interests between the jurors and the two parties. Attorneys also look for other things that most people would not think would bias someone’s opinion, for example certain professions, political ideologies, and so far as sports teams depending on the case. Everyone has the right to a fair and just trial which includes having an unbiased jury. If you are called for jury duty, it is best to be as honest as possible and answer all questions asked of you to the best of your ability.
