These are some simple rules to follow when in a courtroom.
* Stand when a judge enters until they say “You may be seated”, a bailiff says “All rise”, when a judge exits, or if there is jury is present anytime they enter or leave.
* Always ask the judge permission to approach the bench
* Do not interrupt the judge when they are speaking
* Make sure that you are dressed appropriately
* Keep phones turned off at all times
* Do not bring in any weapons to the courthouse
* Do not chew gum, or eat food in court with the exception of water at the counsel tables.
* Do not use tobacco products in the courtroom.
* ALWAYS BE ON TIME!!!!!
If one of these rules are broken the presiding judge can hold you in contempt of court, which could result in a fine or time spent in jail.
